RIO DE JANEIRO – Federal Police (PF) seized 85 kilograms of pure cocaine Thursday at a checkpoint on the BR-020 highway in Formosa, Goias. Police say the drugs, bound for the Federal District, would be sold during Carnaval in the capital.
According to the PF, the drug’s value is about R$1 million reais ($500 thousand US). Hidden inside the cab of a truck, police found packages containing pure cocaine hydrochloride. They arrested two men.
Officers stopped the truck around 4 a.m. Police found the behavior of the occupants of the vehicle suspicious. Police arrested the men after, under questioning, they confessed to transporting the drugs.
The PF suspect the drugs originated in the state of Mato Grosso. The two face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
