Madonna Arrvies in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO – Madonna arrived in Rio de Janeiro Friday morning, with her family aboard a private jet. The 54-year-old entertainer traveled straight to the Hotel Fasano in Ipanema without interacting with any of her fans, disappointing many.

Madonna arrived at the seaside hotel in Ipanema, one of Rio’s main tourist districts, at about 12 p.m. Friday. She traveled in a black Range Rover with tinted windows closed and did not stop to talk with fans.

Shortly after arriving, Madonna’s boyfriend appeared on the same hotel balcony where Lady Gaga appeared topless three weeks ago. A crowd of fans gathered on the seaside promenade across from the hotel expressed disappointment that the star did not appear.

Some fans waited for the diva all morning with banners and posters. “I really wanted to see Madonna up close,” lamented frustrated student Pedro Gonzales, 18. Fans hoping to see Madonna expressed disappointment to see only the star’s young boyfriend, dancer Brahim Zaibat.

The pop diva came to Brazil to perform her MDNA tour with shows in Rio de Janeiro, Dec. 2, Sao Paulo, Dec. 4 and 5, and in Porto Alegre, Dec. 9.

Among the singer’s special requests for her dressing room are 16 different types of salad dressing and three physiotherapists available to care for her and 22 dancers.

Approximately 700 costumes arrived in country earlier in the week, six of them being part of the costume changes during Madonna’s performances.

Hotel Fasano in the fashionable Ipanema district of Rio has become the “in” hotel for visiting American pop stars. Among other notables, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift have both stayed at the Fasano this year.
