RIO DE JANEIRO – Police in Sao Paulo state arrested two octogenarian men over the weekend, in separate incidents of bad behavior. Police say one of the men trafficked cocaine and the other hired a pair of child prostitutes for sex.
Late Sunday afternoon, police in Rincao arrested an 84-year-old taxi driver and a woman, 38, on suspicion of drug trafficking. Residents tipped off police that the pair sought out drugs in neighboring Araraquara.
When police stopped the taxi, they found 36 rocks of crack cocaine in the woman’s purse, plus R$142 reais (about U.S. $70). Police booked them both into jail on drug trafficking charges.
Saturday afternoon, police in Salto arrested an 86-year-old man suspected of sexually abusing two 14-year-old teenagers. According to the Municipal Guard, the man is the father of a former mayor of the city.
Acting on an anonymous tip, police went to the suspect’s home and found the man having sex with the minors. Although the three hid when police arrived, they were discovered during a search of the man’s home.
Police took all three to the police station for questioning. According to police, the minors revealed that they received the equivalent of U.S. $15 to keep up relations with the man.
Child protective services took custody of the children and the elderly man was booked into jail on child prostitution charges. A jail unit reserved for sexual predators houses the man.
