BAHIA, Brazil – Salon du Chocolat Bahia kicked off late on Thursday, bringing together those who grow cocoa and those who consume chocolate. Renowned chefs, chocolate experts, cocoa growers, chocolatiers and chocolate lovers all gathered to admire unique exhibitions and attend recipes demonstrations.
Salon du Chocolat Bahia Kicks Off
The Bahia event is the first time the Salon du Chocolat, the premier event for chocolate lovers, takes place in Latin America and the first time in a chocolate producing country. Brazil is the fourth largest consumer of chocolate and the fifth largest producer.
Dedicated to the centennial of Brazilian writer Jorge Amado, Salon du Chocolat Bahia is open to the public Friday through Sunday at the Convention Center in Salvador. Jorge Amado was a native of Bahia and the best-known of modern Brazilian writers. His works have been translated into 49 languages and popularized in film, most notably Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands.
There are more than 40 exhibitors showing all stages of chocolate production, from cocoa producers to large industrial chocolate makers. Also presented are raw materials, unique techniques and unusual products, like edible makeup made from chocolate.
The Salon du Chocolat selected the state of Bahia to host the event because it is the largest producer of cocoa in Brazil.
Divided into three spaces, the Salon will feature the Choco Demo, where the best chocolatiers and pastry chefs of France will demonstrate recipes.
In Chocoesfera, experts, celebrities and enthusiasts will share their knowledge and passion for chocolate. Chocolândia welcomes children to participate in games and creative activities about chocolate and importance of the Atlantic to the Brazilian cocoa production.
The Salon du Chocolat
In its 17 years of existence, and more than 90 editions around the world, the Salon du Chocolat is sponsored by the International Event. Currently, the Salon takes place on four continents and caters to three million visitors worldwide.
The first time in Brazil, the Salon du Chocolate has taken place in Paris, New York, Tokyo, Moscow, Shanghai, Madrid, Cairo, Bologna, Marseille, Lille, Lyon and Bordeaux.
