RIO DE JANEIRO – A detainee got wedged in a hole he carved in the wall of the Guaraciaba do Norte Prison, in the interior of Ceara, before dawn Friday, reported online media. The prisoner made a hole and tried to escape but got stuck with part of the body outside and half inside the prison.
Escaping Prisoner Caught After Getting Stuck
According to police, Friday was the prisoner’s 19th birthday, and he wanted to escape “as a birthday present” to himself. “His birthday was today, and he was longing to escape. This is what he wanted for his birthday,” police officer Alan Jones told G1.
Police did not find the tool used to carve the hole in the wall. Saturday, they plan to conduct a “general inspection” to search for prohibited items inside the prison. The prisoner who tried to escape shared a cell with six other inmates.
Guards moved the inmates to another cell while they fix the hole in the wall. The inmate came to the prison in November 2011 and was to be released in 2013.
The would-be escapee found wedged in the wall had already tried to escape two times. In his earlier attempts, he escaped, but police recaptured him. “He is an expert on escaping. He knows the weaknesses of the prison,” said Jones.
In his first escape attempt, the prisoner also made a hole in the wall of the jail. His second shot came last Monday when he climbed the prison wall using a grid as a latter. “This time, in his eagerness, he tried to escape while the hole was too small and got stuck,” said the cop.
