SAO PAULO – Miss Plus Size Brazil, Barbara Monteiro, crowned on Sunday night, was hospitalized early on Monday, said Alberto Conde, the event coordinator. He told G1 that she is doing well and is expected to be discharged this afternoon. The reason for the hospitalization was not released.
Miss Plus Size Brazil Hospitalized
The competition was held in Sao Paulo on Sunday night, where Barbara, representing the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, competed against 25 other candidates who wear a size 44 (U.S. size 18) or above. Sylvia Barreto, representing Sao Paulo was first runner up. Roberta Breves, representing Rio de Janeiro was second runner up.
In addition to the crown, Barbara won a trip to Switzerland for 14 days, a R$10,000 real ($6,000 USD) modeling contract, photographic books and magazines, and the opportunity to participate in parades.
