RIO DE JANEIRO – Federal Highway Police (PRF) arrested a ‘chupacabra’ masked trucker in Bahia state over the three-day weekend for driving dangerously, reported online media. According to the PRF, the big rig driver wore a mask in an attempt to scare other drivers.

RIO DE JANEIRO – A tour boat with 45 people aboard, including 39 Brazilian and foreign tourists, capsized Friday afternoon on the Rio Negro, in the Amazon, reported online media. The tour boat had departed from the Ariau Amazon Towers Hotel, the largest hotel complex in the Amazon, 40 kilometers (about 25 miles) from Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state.

Candiru fish, also known as ‘vampire fish,’ typical to the rivers of the Amazon Basin, enter the human body through the genital organ and require surgery to remove. RIO DE JANEIRO – Hyalinobatrachium iaspidiense, popularly known as the “glass frog,” has drawn attention of researchers in the Amazon, reported online media. Scientists discovered the remarkable species, only 24 millimeters (about 1 inch) long as an adult, nocturnal and transparent, in 2002 during nighttime surveys in Cachoeira da Onca, in Presidente Figueiredo, an Amazon municipality, 170 kilometers (about 106 miles) from Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state.
