CURITIBA, Brazil — Two jail inmates tried to escape custody on Tuesday, hidden in garbage bags, reported online media. Police said the attempted escape occurred around noon, when they serve lunch to the inmates.
Jail Inmates Attempt Escape in Garbage Bags
According to the incident report, a guard noticed that the garbage bags–placed in a hallway for pickup–”were moving.” The officer said at first he thought that there were rats in the bags, but on closer inspection, discovered the detainees, aged 18 and 24.
According to the guard, the jail has been subject to constant attempts to escape, due to overcrowding on site. Jailers opened an administrative process to investigate how the prisoners got into the hallway. Police hope to determine if a third-party participated in the attempted escape.
