RIO DE JANEIRO – Residents of a town in Bahia state plundered the contents of a semi-truck Wednesday morning, making off with a load of chocolate, reported online media. The truck and its trailer overturned on the BR-101 highway, near the town of Eunapolis, southern Bahia, reported the Federal Highway Police (PRF).

According to the agency, by the time police arrived on the scene, locals had already taken 90 percent of the goods. The accident and subsequent looting partly blocked traffic on the highway until police arrived at the site and restored order.

There are no reports of arrests.

Also, according to the Highway Patrol, the crash slightly injured both the driver and a passenger riding in the cab of the truck necessitating transport by ambulance to a regional hospital. A preliminary analysis indicates that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to make a turn.

Police dispatched a tow truck to the accident site to remove the overturned big rig.

Federal Highway Police officers have been on strike since Monday. They still respond to emergencies, however, such as accidents with injuries.
